What is We Call It Tango?
We Call It Tango is not only an ode to the complex art form, but also to the Argentine and Uruguayan culture and identity. Originally developed along the Río de la Plata, it was popularized at the beginning of the 20th century, becoming a sensation in the artistic circles of Berlin and Paris. Over three acts and thirteen tangos, you can explore the story of the tango music and dance through dynamic performances.
Tango, its music and the show
Tango is all about celebrating love and loss and conveying raw emotions and sensuality. The music is often melancholic and brings forth memories of old lovers and friends, making us appreciate the loved ones we have in our lives even more. Similarly, the dance is intimate, and through lustradas (leg brushing) and abrazos (embraces), it mimics that magnetic push and pull we often experience in relationships.
The show perfectly depicts that unspoken language between two people. Expect to hear iconic songs from the many tango subgenres, such as “Vida Mía” by Osvaldo Fresedo (also known as “El pibe de La Paternal”) and “Libertango” that marked Piazzolla’s break from traditional tango to tango nuevo.
This unique performance is brought to you by the creators of the passionate “We Call It Flamenco” show that celebrates the internationally renowned Spanish art form.
This time around, it is a 60-minute musical journey to Río de la Plata, paying tribute to the seductive tango. The show starts at 6:00 pm but doors open 30 minutes prior, giving you plenty of time to find your seats.
