Horror movie fans rejoice! This theme restaurant will make your spookiest culinary dreams come true.
The Haunted House Restaurant in Cleveland Heights celebrated its grand opening on July 20. It will take over the space that was once occupied by a Melt Bar & Grille.
The Haunted House Restaurant space is an ode to its creators’ love of horror films, but it’s not trying to be a haunted house — in fact, a sign prominently displayed in the entryway claims the “Only thing scary is how good the food is!” There won’t be any jumpscares, rather, the walls and menu items are full of easter eggs for eager horror fans to find. The wall art features images of classic horror movie figures like IT’s Pennywise, Friday the 13th’s Jason, and Frankenstein. Horror movies play on the TVs to complete the spooky ambiance.
Partner Ryan Wolf got the inspiration for a horror-themed restaurant after tasting chef Darnell “SuperChef” Ferguson’s cooking based on superhero characters.
For courageous diners, the Haunted House Restaurant offers a variety of horror-themed menu items. Scooby snacks (pulled chicken nachos), the Nashville Massacre (fried hot shrimp), and Chucky Rolls (southern egg rolls with chicken, collard greens, mac and cheese and sweet potato puree) round out the spooky appetizer menu. The main dish menu includes a Lurch Burger with caramelized onions and smoked gouda; the Grudge, a plate salmon and fried asparagus; and an appropriately poultry-heavy Birdbox sandwich with fried chicken breast, cajun mayo, a brown sugar slaw, and Haunted Sauce.
The Haunted House Restaurant has plans to expand its horror theming through events. On August 18, it will host a cosplay party that invites guests to come dressed as their favorite horror movie characters.
Find it at 13463 Cedar Road, Cleveland Heights, OH 44118.
